A Vision for Pakistan: A Tribute to Field Marshal Hafiz Syed Asim Munir

Rev. Javed Yousaf

On May 20, 2025, General Hafiz Syed Asim Munir was officially appointed as Field Marshal of Pakistan—an elevation witnessed by diplomats, politicians, and top-ranking officials from all branches of the Pakistan Armed Forces. This historic decision reflects not only his exemplary service but also the hopes of a nation longing for stability, integrity, and direction.

Field Marshal Asim Munir’s journey is deeply rooted in faith, discipline, and national service. A Hafiz-e-Quran, his name—Asim—means “protector, guide, and defender”—a name that fittingly reflects his role. His military career includes significant defense collaborations, including those between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, strengthening strategic ties in the region.

In a time when our democracy has suffered under the weight of dynastic politics, opportunistic elites, and systemic corruption, the elevation of a man of merit like Field Marshal Asim Munir is a beacon of hope. His presence signals the possibility of a leadership that serves the people—not one driven by self-interest or power inheritance.

As a Christian pastor living in the United States for over three decades, I speak as a well-wisher of Pakistan, not bound by party or religion. I recall the legacy of Muhammad bin Qasim—dispatched when a Muslim woman cried for help—and how that moment changed the course of the subcontinent’s history. Today, Pakistan stands in need of a similar defense—not just of borders, but of its soul, its ideology, and its unity.

We, the Christian community of Pakistan, were among the first to vote for the creation of Pakistan. Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s promise—that all citizens, regardless of faith, would be equal—remains our guiding light. I urge you, Field Marshal Sahib, to restore that vision.

America, where I now live, has a stable and thriving democracy primarily because 90% of its leadership has served in the military—they are veterans tested by sacrifice. Pakistan, too, has such heroes. I propose the formation of a Ghazi Party—a political movement comprising veterans from all provinces: Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Bring these tested patriots to Parliament, to assemblies, and to leadership.

You have often said that your elevation came through the prayers of martyrs and veterans. May those prayers continue to guide you. And I, as a follower of Jesus Christ, pray to my Holy God that the Pakistan you lead sees its rivers flow again, its mines yield gold and silver, and its people flourish within their own land—without having to labor abroad for a dignified life.

Field Marshal Asim Munir, may your leadership bring a new era. May Pakistan rise under your vision.

Pakistan Zindabad.
