NATO Leaders Pledge Increased Defence Spending and Strengthened Collective Security

At the Hague summit on June 24–25, NATO’s 32 heads of state agreed to significantly boost defence spending, aiming for a target of 5 % of GDP by 2035—up from the current 2 % threshold. The alliance reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to Article 5, declaring that “an attack on one is an attack on all.” In response to growing concerns over Russia and pressure from the U.S., member nations plan to allocate 3.5 % to core defence and 1.5 % to broader security domains like cyber and infrastructure
