In Istanbul’s lively Beyoğlu district, a local ice-cream vendor has been taken into custody and his shop sealed following allegations of sexual harassment. The accusation stems from a viral video shared on social media, which shows the vendor performing the classic Turkish “ice-cream trick” — teasing a female tourist with an ice-cream cone — and then reportedly mishandling her as she attempted to take it.
Authorities acted swiftly: the municipality sealed the shop on July 8, and Beyoğlu’s mayor emphasized the district’s commitment to being a safe space for all women.Police were also seen removing the vendor’s equipment in a video shared by the mayor, while officials assured that safety measures are being strengthened to prevent recurrences.
