On February 30 at 7 pm, a man was discovered dead in his house after being left alone for more than two hours. Sources have revealed that his wife was out grocery shopping and ran into a friend while buying meat from the local butcher. The paramedics rushed to the scene to find the man unconscious near the stove with a pot filled with water boiling on the stove. Investigators believe that the man was trying to make tea for himself to relieve the stress of his day at work but forgot how to. The victim came back to an empty home after previously working the whole day tirelessly to support his family.
Neighbours reported that the wife, Asiyah Bibi, was dismissive and failed to attend to the victim’s needs adequately. On Sunday mornings, by which I mean midday, the wife would start vacuuming the lounge and gradually make her way to the other rooms in the house. This victim was later identified as Asghar, who had to deal with excessive noise while trying to get a proper 12 hours of sleep, which is crucial for a 35-year-old man. Of course, Sundays were the only day Asiyah Bibi could squeeze in time for vacuuming since she was far too busy attending to Asghar and their children the rest of the week, as well as cooking a whole feast for the entire family, but for her to vacuum while he was sleeping? How rude!
The case garnered considerable public attention, causing an uproar, particularly among the male audience, who criticised Asiyah Bibi for failing to care for Asghar properly. The audience kept urging the government to give the woman the most severe punishment possible for her careless mistakes, which took the life of an innocent. After months of online protests, the public grew tired of not seeing any results. It took to the streets, blocking roads that negatively affected local businesses. During the time roads were blocked, a wedding was scheduled to take place in the Shariff clan, after which the government decided to act and opened an investigation. In Asiyah’s defence, she claimed that Asghar never helped with domestic work; instead, he lounged with his feet resting on the table while Asiyah did multiple chores simultaneously. However, these were her duties, which made her objections to a life sentence fail. Asiyah Bibi was sentenced to life without parole. Justice was served—piping hot, with a side of unpaid labour and patriarchal hypocrisy.
