Pakistani scholars interested in pursuing lectureships or post-doctoral research abroad can consider the Fulbright Scholar Program 2025 announced by the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) last week. While the program is highly competitive, it is worth trying.
This year, 15 positions are being offered. 13 of these are limited to researchers or faculty members early in their careers whereas the remaining two are being offered for faculty members, who have taught for 8 to 15 years after completing their doctorate. The applicants for the former positions must hold a doctorate or a terminal degree. They should also have been in their current academic role for at least two years. Besides, for those who have returned from the US after pursuing educational opportunities, there must be a two-year gap between their return and subsequent application.
The scholars selected under the program will work in close coordination with the academic community in the United States, and will actively share their insights about Pakistan there, thereby enhancing cultural exchanges with the Americans.
The program is lucrative as it offers airfare, research allowance, a stipend good enough to cover living costs and health insurance. The visa application process is also covered for the selected scholars, and one accompanying dependent will also be given financial support to meet their needs during their stay in the US.
Pakistan has a number of scientists and researchers, and considering that only 15 positions are being offered, the challenge is going to be immense. The process will be highly competitive and only those who exhibit the greatest potential will be considered for the positions. However, it is important to understand that this does not mean that it is impossible to be considered for the program. So, it is advised that those interested in the opportunity must put in the right effort to make the most of it.
Young scientists from Islamic countries
Young scientists from Islamic countries will now have the opportunity to pursue advanced learning via a fellowship program, which will be conducted at the Sharif University of Technology in the Iranian capital, Tehran.
The Young Scientists Fellowship Program (YSEP) was announced by the Mustafa (Peace Be Upon Him) Science and Technology Foundation (MSTF) in collaboration with COMSTECH. Prestigious scientific institutions and notable research centers are partnering with organizations to provide opportunities to the youth of Islamic countries.
These short-term fellowships, spanning 6-12 months, are limited to scientists under the age of 40. The candidates must have at least a master’s degree. The domains covered under the fellowship include data science, artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, biotechnology, nano biochemistry, oil and gas, water and environment, ICT, and mechanical engineering. The young scientists will gain advanced learning opportunities, designed to enhance their capacity and nurture their skills for the development of science and technology in sync with the values of an Islamic society.
Under the fellowship, young scientists will get the opportunity to explore new scientific achievements and share their findings, thus bridging borders for the mutual development of science and technology. As scientists from different states come together, they can collaborate for better research and expand the knowledge base of Islamic countries. Besides, they can work together to address scientific and technological challenges.
The candidates will be primarily evaluated based on the information they provide in their application forms. Moreover, those who have previously worked with Mustafa (Peace Be Upon Him) Prize Laureates or are the winners of the KANS Scientific Competition will have extra evaluation points. To uphold merit, the applications will be evaluated based on the candidates’ scores. Those shortlisted will be considered for final review and selection.
