May 9 Riots’ “Masterminds” to Face Military Court Trials, Defence Ministry Tells SC

Jarida Report

During a Supreme Court hearing on the military trials of civilians, Defence Ministry lawyer Advocate Khawaja Haris stated that the “masterminds” behind the May 9 riots would be tried under the Army Act in military courts. The riots, triggered by the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, included attacks on army installations and led to widespread unrest. The case has sparked debate over the appropriateness of military trials for civilians. The court is examining the constitutional validity of such trials, while the government insists they are necessary to address the severity of the conspiracy and maintain national security.
