Panel Advocates Science-Led Reforms and Fiscal Measures for Food Safety

A parliamentary panel stressed the urgent need for a science-based approach to improve Pakistan’s food safety and quality standards, urging alignment with Codex Alimentarius and adopting evidence-driven risk assessments throughout the supply chain  . It called for stronger fiscal reforms, such as reallocating taxes on unhealthy foods and incentivizing healthy options under a “One Health” framework, to curb diet-related diseases . The panel urged tighter regulatory oversight, digital governance, and provincial‑federal coordination to protect public health and boost agri‑exports.
