After the recent drama at the Divided Nations Insecurity Council, where the President of Victimvale became enraged after the Leader of Nuribia left the summit as the former called for all its neighbouring countries to be disarmed in order to maintain global peace, the State of Victimvale released an official statement declaring war on Nuribia.
An interesting point, however, is that Victimvale is a peninsular country, sharing its borders with Nuribia only. The countries maintained neutral bilateral relations until the Victimases came into power, a party that focuses on maintaining the country’s military superiority.
According to latest reports, the two countries have exchanged three sets of missiles, targeting both military and civilian infrastructure in each other’s territories, an act normalised in other recent international conflicts where the T word (terrorism) could be used to legitimise the act.
While both countries are receiving condemnation for creating chaos in a world that was otherwise peaceful, most of the international community seems to be inclined towards Nuribia, a rather surprising development in world politics where leaders generally find it hard to differentiate between the aggressor and the defender.
In a shocking turn of events, protests have erupted in Victimvale calling for an end to the war and demanding the President resign. The official statement released from City Palace, residence of Victimvale’s current president, claims that these protests are orchestrated by the current opposition to the government, which is led by Victimvale’s “Robin Hood” who suffered a surprising landslide defeat in the recent national elections.
Social media channels, however, have revealed that the protestors are students, farmers, and shockingly, soldiers who have refused to fight to protect “one madman’s ego”.
“We were taught to hate our neighbours before we could even point out our own location on the world map.”
In an interview with our local correspondent, a student expressed his concern about his visa getting rejected. “My classes start next month. How am I supposed to study and focus on my career while someone wakes up in his mansion and decides to put my country at war?”
A group of farmers has organised a sit-in while displaying the debris of a drone which crashed into a field, leaving the produce unfit for sale and the soil contaminated. When asked about the initial issue—the resolution—most of the farmers seemed completely unaware of it even though the President had proudly declared it “the best of interests of the Valians”.
Hence, there seems to be a large disconnect between Victimvale’s leadership and the common Valians. While the leftover military claims to have the situation under control by neutralising all the drones sent from the enemy, the Ministry of Health has declared a state of emergency given the casualties and injuries caused due to “neutralised” drones crashing over densely populated civilian areas.
“All I know is that I will never be able to walk again,” said a seven-year-old Valian who lost both of his legs as a result of a drone crashing into the playground where he was playing football.
As the crisis deepens, contrasting perspectives claim to document history. While chants to end the war echo across the country and journalists publish columns called “How One Man’s Ego Triggered a Brigade of Funerals”, City Palace works on a draft autobiography of the current president titled “How One Man Defended a Country that had Turned Against Him”, with both parties trying their best to win over citizens of the future with their documentation, if not citizens of the present with their actions.
