Ukraine Sets 2026 Budget with Record Deficit to Bolster Defense Spending

In current conflict Ukraine has given its draft 2026 budget projecting a deficit of 18.4% of GDP, the largest in recent years, as it focuses on defence and security. Prime minister Yulia Svyrydenko states that revenues should be 2.8 trillion hryvnias, and the expenditures will be 4.8 trillion hryvnias.

She highlighted that the majority of the funds will be spent on military reinforcement and social support of citizens. The plan highlights the determination of Kyiv to maintain resistance even though they rely heavily on international partners to fund hosting the resistance. The parliamentary debate on the budget is now due in the next few weeks.
